📵 New RPS Cell Phone Policy: “Away for the Day”
Key Highlights:
-
Bell-to-Bell Policy: Students are required to store their cell phones and refrain from usage from the first bell to dismissal, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, and outdoor areas.
-
Permitted Devices: RPS-issued Chromebooks are allowed for instructional purposes. Personal devices such as smartwatches, tablets, and laptops are not permitted during school hours.
-
Transportation: Students may use their mobile devices while on the school bus. However, filming or recording other students is prohibited.
-
Exemptions: Students with documented needs outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, or Health Care Plans may be granted exemptions.
Disciplinary Measures:
RPS employs a tiered approach to address violations of the cell phone policy:
-
First Offense: Verbal warning and documentation of the incident.
-
Second Offense: Written notice or phone call home, with potential temporary confiscation of the device requiring caregiver pick-up.
-
Third Offense: Possible suspension, either in-school or out-of-school, depending on the severity and frequency of violations.
Severe violations, such as using a phone for cheating, cyberbullying, or illegal activities, may lead to immediate confiscation, suspension, and involvement of law enforcement.
Communication:
In case of emergencies or the need to contact your child during school hours, please call the school's main office.
